What makes a cult hero? Scoring against Real Madrid and Man United in the same week, from left back, will usually do it. Ask Liverpool fans what they think of Andrea Dossena and you'll get a smile and an 'awful shit but he did score that lob against United'. The living definition of a cult hero.

Where an alleged incident of shoplifting from Harrods stands in the pantheon of cult hero-ness, we're not quite sure. The 33 year old Italian was arrested in London yesterday on suspicion of shoplifting from the world famous department store.

Dossena, along with a 31 year old woman, believed to be his partner, were taken to a west London police station before being released on bail. A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police confirmed that an incident had occurred at the Knightsbridge shop.

Police arrested a 33-year-old male and a 31-year-old woman on April 7 on suspicion of shoplifting at Harrods. They were taken to a west London police station. Both the man and woman have been bailed to a date in late April, pending further enquiries.

The Italian international defender is currently plying his trade with Leyton Orient after spells with Napoli, Palermo and Sunderland following his departure from Anfield.

Update 2:

Dossena's representative has since said that the Italian was held by police after a misunderstanding involving his son.

It was a family shopping trip to Harrods and their little boy was carrying his own bag. He put a kids’ book in there and it set the security alarms off as they left the shop.
