The 2019/20 Premier League season is finally finished, just under 12 months after it originally got underway. This season will certainly live long in the memory, but the coronavirus pandemic was not the only strange aspect of the campaign.
Here's 21 bizarre stats that prove this was the strangest season in quite some time.
21 Bizarre Premier League Stats
Manchester United got the exact same amount of points as last season, but finished three places higher
Manchester United finished third in the Premier League, a big improvement from their sixth placed finish last season.
However, they actually got the exact same amount of points in both campaigns (66). That tells you all you need to know about the failings of other top four contenders this season.
City scored 17 goals more than Liverpool, conceded only 2 more, but finished 18 points behind them
Manchester City never really challenged Jurgen Klopp's side this season, but they ended the campaign having scored 102 goals to Liverpool's 85.
It wasn't exactly a huge gap at the back either, with City conceding only two more goals. This stat seems to come down to Pep's team running up the score in games they have already won, whereas Liverpool were often happy to see out a one-goal lead.
Since the 9-0 game in October, Southampton have picked up more points than Leicester City
Leicester's 9-0 win in this fixture was the tenth game for both sides, moving Brendan Rodgers' team to third place in the league.
Since then Southampton have picked up 44 points in comparison to Leicester 42. Not great.
Liverpool both won the league the earliest and latest of any team ever
Liverpool clinched the league title on June 25th, making it the latest any team has ever won the title in terms of date on the calendar.
However, they won it with seven games still left to play, more than any other side.
Danny Ings scored more PL goals this season than in the rest of his career combined
Danny Ings' 22 Premier League goals this season is not only a career high, but is actually one more than he had scored in all other seasons combined.
In fairness much of that was down to his injury issues, but it shows just how good he has been.
There were more points between first place and third place there was between third and 19th
Manchester United finished on 66 points in third place, 33 behind league winners Liverpool. That is actually a larger gap than between United and 19th placed Watford, who finished 32 points further back.
Spurs would have finished 4th had the Premier League started the day Jose Mourinho was appointed
The special one.
If you only counted results after Mourinho took charge of Spurs, they would have ended up in fourth place.
Alisson Becker had the same amount of assists as Raheem Sterling
Alisson grabbed his only assist of the campaign in Liverpool's win over Manchester United, meaning he actually registered the same amount as Raheem Sterling this season.
Manchester united received more penalties at Carrow Road than Norwich
Manchester United were given two penalties in their visit to Carrow Road earlier this season, both of which were missed.
That means they actually got more penalties at the ground than Norwich themselves, who were awarded only one spot kick at home in the Premier League.
Watford had twice as many managers as away wins
Watford were managed by four different men this season in Javi Gracia, Quique Sánchez Flores, Nigel Pearson, and Hayden Mullins.
They only won two away games all season, 0.5 per manager.
Pierre-Emile Højbjerg took 46 shots without scoring a goal
That was the most in the league without finding the back of the net.
Two Liverpool fullbacks had more assists than the fullbacks of the rest of the top four clubs combined
Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson got 25 assists, which is five more than every fullback at Cheslea, Manchester United, and Manchester City combined: Cesar Azpilicueta (6), Reece James (2), Marcos Alonso (2), Kyle Walker (4), Benjamin Mendy (2), Aaron Wan-Bissaka (4).
Southampton had the 19th best home record, but the 3rd best away record
If they can be anyway decent at home next season, watch out.
Kepa Arrizabalaga let in almost half of the shots on target he faced
Kepa had a horror season, letting in 47 goals. He only made 55 saves.
Jack Grealish was fouled 167 times
That's by far the most anyone has been fouled in a Premier League season, and is 45 more than Wilfried Zaha in second place.
Joelinton had more than three times more yellow cards than goals
Costing £40million last summer, Joelinton would find the back of the next twice this season.
He got seven yellow cards...
Virgil van Dijk made nearly 700 more passes than any other player
An amazing stat, displaying how important the Dutchman is to Liverpool's attack.
Van Dijk made 3,259 passes this season, with Rodri making the second most with 2,579.
Watford's Christian Kabasele got more red cards than yellow cards
Two red cards, one yellow card. Weird.
Wolves didn't have an English goalscorer all season
Wolves managed to go a whole season without a single English goalscorer, which is incredible.
It's not actually all that surprising when you consider that the only English players in their first team squad are Conor Coady, Morgan Gibbs White, John Ruddy.
Arsenal placed 4th in the 2020 table
If you only counted results since the turn of the year, Arsenal would actually place fourth in the table.
That's a bit surprising when you consider how dire they have been at times.
If games ended at half time, Wolves would have finished 19th
Very much a second half team.
