Manchester United need bodies in defence. Fans of the club know this and they'll be thankful that it looks like Louis van Gaal is trying to do something about it.
Mark Ogden of The Telegraph reports today that Atletico Madrid's Uruguayan centre-back Diego Godin is a target for the club during the January transfer window. Godin was a key part of the Atletico side as they won the La Liga title last season and made it all the way to the Champions League final. Godin scored the goal that put his side ahead against Real Madrid in the European club football's showpiece game. He was also a part of the Uruguayan team at this summer's World Cup as they progressed to the second round.
The 28-year-old would not come cheap though. He is contracted to Atletico until 2018 but does have a release clause of €36m.
The paper also says that Aston Villa's Dutch defender Ron Vlaar, who was part of Van Gaal's Netherlands team at the World Cup, is another possible target.
