As Irish sports fans, we've seen our fair share of horrendous tackles in the past, most memorably Roy Keane's 'tackle' on Alf Inge Haaland comes to mind. But never in our wildest imaginations did we ever expect the law to become involved in a tackle. In the Swiss league at the weekend, FC Zurich and FC Aarau faced off in what proved to be a fiesty affair. FC Aarau ended up finishing the game with 9 men after two sendings off. It's the first sending off though, that of Sandro Wiesler, that has lead to FC Zurich issuing criminal proceedings.
21 year old Liechenstein midfielder was sent off for this horrendous tackle that may have ended the career of the Ivory Coast international Gilles Yapi-Yapo. The incident occured in the 19th minute of the game, and FC Zurich have confirmed that Yapi-Yapo has suffered a torn anterior and interior cruciate ligaments, serious cartilage damage, meniscus tear, a torn kneecap and deep bruising in his thigh.
Have a look at the brutal tackle yourself. Warning, it's pretty bad.
