Younger football fans may remember him from the glory days of Soccer Saturday in the early 2000's, but former Leeds and Manchester United defender, and father of Sky Sports new presenter Haley, Gordon McQueen has branded Scottish-born Irish pair Aiden McGeady and James McCarthy as "traitors". In a vicious tirade, McQueen is appalled at their choice of not choosing to represent their country of birth and hopes they get abuse this Friday when they return to Scotland for Ireland's crucial Euro 2016 qualifier at Celtic Park.
I hate that: I've got no time for these players. You're born in Glasgow but then you go and play for somebody else? What's that all about? I'm not having that at all. Will it be hard for them coming back here with Ireland? I really hope so. I hope they get a horrible reception because they deserve it.
McQueen further endeared himself to Irish fans by revealing his confidence that Scotland would record a victory they need to stay in the hunt for qualification.
Personally, I would think that we will qualify but I would be ashamed if we didn't because just about everybody gets to these finals - 24 countries. Surely we can do that?
What do you think? Does McQueen have a point, or is this the first shots fired in what could be an interesting week ahead?
