Could it be bye bye Anfield and hello Emirates road? It's being reported that Liverpool owner John W Henry is looking to sell sponsorship, which could open up the possibility of selling the naming rights to Anfield. It is believed that Henry travelled to Dubai for potential sponsorship discussions, and was spotted along with former Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry at Al Wasl's game with Ajman on Wednesday. Al Wasl is one of the club's that Argentine legend Diego Maradona has previously managed.
It it thought that there is more on the Dubai agenda than Liverpool for the Boston-based billionaire, but his meeting with Parry, along with the planned reconstruction of Anfield raises the possibility of increased commerical turnover in the club as part of a new sponsorship arrangement.
We can't imagine the famous Anfield Road stadium being called anything else, nor do we expect that Liverpool fans will be too happy. We wait and see whether the famed sign above the tunnel will need to be altered. Nonetheless, let us know what you think, Liverpool fans or not.
