'Everything that was said about this game is coming true' - so said Martin Tyler after an opening 25 minutes that had generated 3 goals.
Although Mohamed Salah continued his impressive start for Liverpool, halving the deficit with a curious finish that slipped beyond Hugo Lloris, it was another Liverpool player who captured much of their fans' ire after Spurs had raced into a 2-0 lead.
There is an increasingly common opinion taking hold that Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool may not actually be the outstanding advance on the side Brendan Rodgers left behind.
Problem under Rodgers was conceding goals. 4 out of the back 5 still Rodgers signings two years on that can’t be right.

Well one of those defenders still in situ is the Croatian Dejan Lovren.
At fault - at least predominantly - for both of Spurs' first half goals, many viewers were left perplexed by what they were witnessing.
Who'd have thunk Lovren was a liability at the back? #TOTLIV 🤔

Lovren and Mignolet are not good enough for this level. Complete lack of ability to read the play results in two gifted goals. Terrible.

Lovren 😡😡😡😡rubbish

Lovren seemed to have forgotten he was actually involved in a football match there. Looked a terrible shock. All those faces. The grass

Here at Wembley, Jurgen Klopp will need a big speech at half-time. But it will probably go over Dejan Lovren's head.

Well, with the damage irreparably done, an 'injury' gave cause for Lovren to be substituted after just 30 minutes.
All the more excruciating for the Croat will be the fact that it was Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who came on instead of him - an indictment of his inability to contribute anything useful so embarrassing that Klopp fancied Liverpool's chances with only one recognisable centre-half on the pitch.
Ox to left wing, Coutinho to midfield, Can to right-back. Lovren so bad Klopp has changed every line of his team to get him off the pitch.

Ox for Lovren. Doesn't get any more brutal than that.

Lovren "will be disappointed with that"

Lovren off for Chamberlain. Appears he picked up an injury. That injury being embarrassment.
