With the current season nearing it's conclusion, transfer silly season is upon us. We accept that we are going to be subjected to some ridiculous transfer rumours such as Jordan Henderson to Barcelona, but it seems that even the managers aren't safe from the speculation as the future of Manuel Pellegrini at Manchester City remains unclear.
According to Independent.co.uk, former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez is itching for a return to the Premier League and Manchester City could turn to the Spaniard after becoming frustrated with the lack of progress under Manuel Pellegrini, despite winning the Premier League title just last season.
The article claims that Benitez's familiarity with Man City director of football Txiki Begiristain is one of the major factors behind the Manchester club's interest in Rafa, who is out of contract with Napoli at the end of this season.
Since arriving in Naples, Benitez has delivered an Italian Cup and Supercup in his reign as manager, but with his side under performing in the league this season, and likely to miss out on Champions League football, it could be time for a change.
You would have to imagine that Manchester City fans would want a bigger name than Benitez in charge, and Liverpool fans would surely be upset, considering the debate over whether Rafa could do a better job at Anfield still continues to this day.
Keep in mind that they are just rumours for the moment, and Rafa has also been linked to West Ham, but it will be interesting to see how this story develops in the coming weeks, especially if Manchester City continue to struggle to find form.
