10 Of The Most Stupid Football Punditry Quotes Of All-Time

Whether you like it or not, nearly every player to have played professional football has become a pundit.

This can go great when you have the likes of Roy Keane and Micah Richards playing good cop/bad cop. It can also go horribly wrong when you realise some of them should never have been put on television.

Quote Father Jack.

A shock Saturday headline was Chelsea's 5-2 defeat at the hands of Big Sam and West Brom. In classic punditry/overly bravado fashion, Joe Cole had a massive overreaction to the result on BT Sport:

This is a lesson to Tuchel: this isn’t the Bundesliga, this isn’t Ligue 1, this is the Premier League.

This led us into a deep dive through the internet to uncover the most stupid quotes from pundits over the years.

Eamonn Dunphy vs Ronaldo

The quote - "This fella Ronaldo, is a cod."

In the aftermath of Barcelona vs Manchester United, Eamonn Dunphy didn't mince his words on Cristiano Ronaldo.

He launched a verbal tirade on the star, although it was probably more funny than stupid. Dunphy said Ronaldo should look be a role model like Tiger Woods or Padraig Harrington. Nice.

Ian Wright vs England Caps

The quote - “If Glenn Hoddle had been any other nationality, he would have had 70 or 80 caps for England.”

Ian Wright has become a likeable character in the media, whether it's through his 'Wrighty's House' podcast or his vocal stance on racism in football.

Sadly, Wright has had a few blunders to contend with, including this one about Glenn Hoddle.

Michael Owen vs The Memes

The quote - "When they don't score, they hardly ever win."

Recommended

Poor Michael Owen. Owen has suffered probably the worst reaction of a player going into punditry of all-time.

He didn't spare himself, however, as his ability to point out the obvious became a thing of internet folklore, or memes as they call it these days.

Jamie Redknapp vs Family Roles

The quote - "Peter Schmeichel will be like a father figure to Kasper Schmeichel."

Whether you like him or not, Jamie Redknapp has given us some enjoyable moments on television.

From getting roasted on League of their Own to circling the corner flag during some Sky Sports analysis. This quote is one for the ages though.

Mark Lawrenson vs Human Anatomy

The quote - "He’s got a knock on his shin there,  just above the knee.”

Mark Lawrenson will always be remembered as a Match of the Day stalwart.

He's had some shocking quotes over the years however, with "there won’t be a dry house in the place" running this one very very close.

Here's five more to round out the list:

Ron Atkinson - "If history repeats itself, I should think we can expect the same thing again."

Kevin Keegan - "In some ways, cramp is worse than having a broken leg."

David Pleat - "Not only has he shown Junior Lewis the red card, but he’s sent him off."

Terry Venables - "They didn't change positions, they just moved the players around."

Andy Cole - "I can learn as much from Darius Vassell as he can from me - but he can learn more."
