Back in the day nothing could beat a Pro Evo Master League.

The undisputed king of football video games in it's heyday, Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer between the years of 2003 and 2008 was truly a thing of beauty.

PES had good graphics, incredible game-play, and a host of enjoyable game modes, but one thing it never had was fully licensed leagues and teams. Don't get us wrong, this was never a problem, we loved the battles between Man Red and Merseyside Red as much as the next gamer, but it did serve up some funny moments when these unlicensed teams had to be given fake names that tended to be loosely based on a former name of the club's area, or something out of a Greek legend.

Here are 10 real European football clubs that sound like the occupants of Master League Division 2.

SC Paderborn

The German club founded in 1999 are enjoying their first season in the Bundesliga, and are captained by Uwe Hünemeier, who himself sounds like a Master League default player.

Sassuolo

Italian basement boys Sassuolo are such a small club that they can't even use their own stadium in Serie A as it is too small. They are the currently club of the brilliantly named Antonio Floro Flores.

S.V. Zulte Waregem

Belgian Pro League side Zulte are the current club of Christian Benteke's younger brother Jonathan.

FC Xanthi

The Greek island of Xanthi has a football club that can boast Everton and Fulham legend Tomasz Radzinski as a notable former player.

Asteras Tripoli

The victims of Erik Lamela's audacious rabona goal in the Europa League, although they are the only team that can say they scored a goal past Spurs striker Harry Kane.

Sivasspor

Former Portsmouth striker John Utaka is currently playing his trade at this Turkish club which could easily have occupied a space in "Other Teams".

SV Darmstadt 98

Honestly every team in the 2.Bundesliga sounds like the fake German league in Pro Evo, but perhaps the most fitting is Darmstadt and their use of the number 98.

AD Alcorcon

A side that easily could have been the home team of default Master League legend Espimas, Alcorcon ply their trade in the segunda division in Spain.

JFK Olymps

According to a study from January 2011, the club was the youngest team in Europe, with an average age of 19.02 years. About the only thing this Latvian club is known for.

It's also worth noting that all of the above clubs' badges could easily have been designed by Konami for the purpose of designing an imaginary team.
