Some fantastic pictures have surfaced from a training session that took place at Gannon Park in Malahide today between Special Olympics Ireland's 11-a-side and 5-a-side soccer teams and the MLS Cup champions, the LA Galaxy.
Of course Robbie Keane was the star attraction, but the entire Galaxy squad was on hand to train with the Irish players and offer some advice ahead of Special Olympics World Summer Games in Los Angeles this July/August which both squads are currently in training for.
Robbie is an ambassador for Team Ireland and is trying to help them raise €440,000 necessary to send the team to Los Angeles, and he took time out to express his delight at being involved:
Myself and Claudine are both delighted and honoured to be helping Special Olympics and Team Ireland ahead of the World Games in Los Angeles. The big aim is to raise at the moment is to raise the €440,000 needed to get Team Ireland to Los Angeles. These athletes deserve to be supported by the country and, as a proud Irishman I’ll be there cheering them on at the Games. I would urge everyone, particularly businesses, to dig deep and get behind the athletes. At the end of the day, these athletes are representing Ireland.
