A story which originated in Spanish newspaper AS is now being widely reported, and it doesn't make good reading for Manchester United fans if there is any truth to it.
With David De Gea's contract at Manchester United due to expire in 17 months time, those behind the scenes at Old Trafford are working hard to tie down their star goalkeeper to a long term deal. While the official word from the club and De Gea's agent Jorge Mendes is that negotiations are progressing, a report which emerged today in AS claims that the Spaniard is experiencing a strained relationship with manager Louis Van Gaal, to the point that the pair have not spoken in months.
The report goes on to suggest that this poor relationship between goalkeeper and manager is all that stands in between De Gea and a long term commitment to Manchester United. Real Madrid have a very real interest in taking David De Gea to the Bernabeu, and obviously wish to do so as quick as possible, so it will be interesting to see if there is any truth to these reports.
AS, along with fellow Spanish publication Marca, do not have the best reputation amongst fans of the Premier League, mainly due to similar "reports" being proved completely false in the past, so obviously Manchester United fans will be hoping that this is another example of the paper inventing an issue where there is none.
There is a good chance that Louis Van Gaal will be asked about these reports in his press conference for the Sunderland game, which we can expect to see some time around Friday afternoon, but until then it's fingers crosses for United fans.
