One of the hardest parts of getting into shape is dieting.
Whilst we can all increase the amount of healthy food we eat, it is usually difficult to remove the high fat treats which fit in between our meals.
However a lot of what we've been considering as "Junk Food" is not actually that bad for us at all and has merely been typecast as such due to having a high fat content.
One thing many of us may not realise is that there are fifteen different types of saturated fat and some of them are actually quite good for our heart, meaning that we can now reconsider some of the fatty treats we've been trying to ignore.
Here's five "unhealthy" foods which are surprisingly good for you.
Pork Scratchings
It's fair to assume theses salty snacks are terrible for us, they are after all deep-fried pig fat, however the figures show they are not all that unhealthy.
Pork rinds are packed with protein and contain zero carbs. They are high in fat but it is mostly unsaturated and contains oleic acid, which is also contained in Olive Oil.
The tasty pub snack are a favourite of Olympic Taekwondo Gold Medalist Jade Jones.
Booze
Yes that's right, Booze is not all that bad for you.
Harvard scientists found that people who had an one to two drinks a day over the course of a week were less likely to contract heart disease than those who don't. Further research has shown that men who drink the same amount have lower abdominal fat than those who choose to abstain from drinking and then binge.
Red wine is by far the healthiest alcohol as it contains more anti oxidants than any other alcoholic drink.
Like a good wine, Andrea Pirlo is a footballer who's gotten better with age, he owns his own vineyard and is regularly pictured with a glass of vino, he produces four types of wine, two red, a white and a rosé.
Beef Jerky
This dried salty snack is similar to the pork rinds in that it's typecast as being overloaded with salt and fat.
But the tasty snack is very high in protein and doesn't raise your insulin, which encourages your body to store fat. Some brands do come loaded with preservatives and salt but there are just as many which are just as good and far more healthy.
Beef jerky has long been known as an American snack but Ireland openside Sean O'Brien is a massive fan of it, probably due to its high protein content.
Sour Cream
Sour cream is delicious when poured over a baked potato, nachos, and fajitas. However many of us think that it's extremely unhealthy due to its high fat content.
The good news is whilst the percentage amount of fat may be high, the actual fat content isn't. Two tablespoons of the stuff provides less calories than half a tablespoon of mayonnaise and less saturated fat than a glass of full fat milk.
Chocolate
Chocolate is great, it's delicious, and it's addictive.
Fortunately it isn't all that bad for you, so long as you eat the right kind and the right amount. The cocoa found in chocolate is rich in flavonoids, which are heart friendly.
Dark chocolate is very popular amongst footballers and has been recommended as essential game day food by the Secret footballer.
The healthiest form of chocolate is dark, with researchers finding that it relaxes your blood vessels and increases blood flow too. The fat contained in chocolate is mostly oleic acid, the same found in olive oil and the pork rinds above.
