Michael van Gerwen has advanced to the seventh PDC World Darts Championship final of his decorated career after battering Chris Dobey 6-1 in the semis on Thursday night.
The Dutchman, who is a three-time winner of the event, is without a title in six years - a barren run few would have predicted during his prime.
MvG may no longer be the main man in the sport but he has given himself a good chance of ending that drought having made Friday's showpiece final.
Van Gerwen, who has lost his two most recent final appearances, will take on the winner of Luke Littler vs Stephen Bunting in the final.
'Mighty Mike' claimed the opening set in strong style vs Dobey, before pinching the second to establish a 2-0 lead.
Dobey fired back witha roof-raising 170 and would get his solitary set before MvG ran away with the game thanks to some stellar finishing.
His 158 finish was the pick of the bunch as he kept former Masters winner Dobey at arm's length en route to his victory.
Van Gerwen gave expletive interview after darts semis win
Van Gerwen has never been one to hide his honesty and dropped an F-bomb as he reflected on his win with Sky Sports on the main stage.
Not one to get drawn into clichés, he was asked how a 2025 world title win would rank up against his successes of 2014, 2017 and 2019.
Van Gerwen would not bite, explaining in his own candid way that he has plenty left to do before considering the title to be his.
That is something to worry about tomorrow... I don't care," he said.
"I am only in the final. I have won f*ck all yet. So I need to make sure I am going to do it tomorrow."
Sky Sports were quick to apologise for the language.
However, darts fans on social media were loving it, with one writing: "Got to love Michael van Gerwen."
Another wrote: "Michael van Gerwen, a true professional. Loved that interview."
It is not the first time Van Gerwen has made headlines in front of a microphone this tournament, with his dig at Peter Wright and his rival's wife causing a stir during the event.
