Gerwyn Price got his bid for a world second title up and running with a 3-0 win against Keane Barry at the PDC World Darts Championship but his behaviour has drawn the scrutiny of legend Raymond van Barneveld.

Price averaged just 91 against Barry - who was nowhere near the heights of his opening round win - and it was more than enough to claim a dominant win.

The Welshman survived a series of missed doubles from Barry, who hit just 2 of his 24 attempts in the match and ultimately lost nine of the 11 legs that were played.

Price, who was widely regarded to be the best player on the planet three years ago, has struggled for form going into the event.

His record in ranking major events has been poor all season and he is without a ranked major title win since the 2021 Grand Slam of Darts.

The former professional rugby player has looked a shadow of the man who had dominated the sport, failing to hit the big scores of his prime.

However, one aspect of his play has remained the same - his boisturous on-stage celebrations which became a signature part of his game when winning the Grand Slam final back in 2018.

Those celebrations have drawn the ire of darts legend Raymond van Barneveld, who vocalised his disapproval of Price's antics given the mediocre nature of his performance.

'Barney' had been on punditry duty for Viaplay in the Netherlands when he labelled Price's shouting as a 'nonsense'.

I think it's a bit of nonsense to go completely nuts 3 times in one leg," Van Barneveld said.

"I also think it's a bit 'not done' and heavily exaggerated. He throws out double one in 27 arrows and then you go out of your mind like that."

Price's on-stage manner was a prominent cause for debate during his prime years of 2020 and 2021, however he had reeled it in over recent months.

Perhaps he has reverted to type in an effort to reignite his game, as he looks to reestablish himself as one of the best players in the sport.

Sent packing by Fermanagh's Brendan Dolan 12 months ago, Price will be keen to arrest the slump in form he has experienced since that defeat.
