After a number of near misses, Nicolas Roche finally added his name to the list of Irishmen who have won a stage in cycling's grand tours when he brilliantly won stage 2 of the Vuelta A Espana today.

Roche joins his cousin Dan Martin and Philip Deignan as Vuelta stage winners in the alst 5 years. Martin, of course, won a stage in this year's Tour de France.
The win also means Roche is leader in 3 separate categories in the Vuelta; points, mountains and combination. He'll wear the green jersey for the points leader in tomorrow's stage. The first Irishman since the great Sean Kelly to do so. He's in 2nd place overall, just 8 seconds behind Vincenzo Nibali.
