Irish cyclist Dan Martin brilliantly won today's stage 4 in the Volta a Catalunya riding solo up through the Pyranees to Port Ainé–Rialp.
Martin's heroic ride saw the Garmin-Sharp man end up as leader in General Classification in the World Tour race. He clearly loves the race having finished in 2nd twice (2009, 2011 following expulsion of Alberto Contador) and 4th last year. While this stage win would rank behind his 2011 stage in the Vuelta d'Espana, the overall win would be the biggest of his career so far (ahead of the 2011 Tour of Poland).
With 3 stages left the race is far from over, but Martin is in with a great chance of securing the win.
