It has been a breathless week in the seemingly eternal tale of Lance Armstrong. Barrels of ink have been spilled, keyboards have been battered to breaking point and some very high-profile writers have had to drastically retreat.
Lets start with Friday Night Lights author Buzz Bissinger and lets hop back just five months ago to when Lance announced he would no longer contest the colossal charges of cheating that were facing him. Buzz still believed.
And now for the back-tracking. Buzz has gone on the offensive. On Friday we had this. You're over Lance.
But then at least Buzz gives you the impression he's angry and that he would have no issues with verbally abusing Lance in person if he ever got the chance. Rick Reilly of ESPN gives you the impression he's been silently weeping to himself while cradling his yellow wristband. "Riles" has been betrayed and it puts the trials and tribulations of Betsy Andreu, Emma O'Reilly and David Walsh into perspective.
After pointing and laughing at two supposed titans of Sports journalism in the States, let's come much closer to home and highlight the brilliant Paul Kimmage who nails Lance and Oprah in The Observer. The end is particularly satisfying.
Over at Sports Illustrated, they carry an interview with Kathy Le Mond, wife of former three-time Tour de France winner Greg. She details the feud between Armstrong and Le Mond and the obsessive way Armstrong tried to destroy them.
The Guardian's William Fotheringham pulls apart Lance's attempt at apologising during the Oprah interview comparing him at one point to Voldemort.
AP have a piece with quotes from Armstrong's former PA and the price he had to pay for getting on the wrong side of Lance.
We finish with a mammoth read from Outside magazine which looks closely at just where the money from Livestrong goes. Guess what? There are a few grey areas.
