Sam Bennett has been forced to withdraw from the Vuelta a Espana after testing positive for COVID-19.
His team, Bora-Hansgrohe, confirmed the new on Twitter: ‘@Sammmy_Be returned a positive antigen test this morning, and also showed some symptoms. Therefore we decided that he wouldn’t start today’s stage.'

Sam Bennett was one of the favourites to win the points classification, and had already won stages two and three of the tour.
It is particularly disappointing for the Carrick-on-Suir rider, given his return to form after recent struggles, as well as injuries over the past year.
Having won the points classification at the 2020 Tour de France, Bennett failed in his bid for selection at this year's race, but had shown a return to top form at La Vuelta.
