Sligo native Mark Scanlon was a two time national champion, winning in 2003 and 2004. He went on to complete the 2004 Tour de France for the AG2R team, becoming the first Irish man to ride in the race since Stephen Roche in 1994. Scanlon also rode for Ireland at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. He retired from professional cycling in 2007.
