You know the drill, at this stage. Conor McGregor. Colin Farrell. Saoirse Ronan. Michael Fassbender.
But not Sam Bennett.
There's rarely a good time to inexplicably describe an Irish person as 'British', but Jesus, Cycle Sport Magazine could scarcely have chosen a worse weekend.
When the popular cycling mag insinuated Bennett was a 'British rider' after his victory at the opening stage of the Critérium International in Corsica on Saturday, the Carrick-on-Suir native was having absolutely none of it.
Gabh mo leithsceil @cyclesportmag ach is eireannach mise. Go raibh maith agaibh go leir don tachaíocht agus do fhocail cineálta 😊

Maith an fear, Sam. Some buachaill.
Although, in fairness to Cycle Sport, the Welsh person running their account did later try to explain it was all a wind-up.
Yikes. No, it was a joke and, as a Glaswegian, I am acutely aware of these Brit-Scot-Irish sensitivities. Ah well... https://t.co/SYlR9YvCQr

Sure look, if Irish people are good at anything, it's letting bygones be bygones.
