Irish cyclist Sam Bennett did not finish today's Scheldeprijs. The reason was a massive crash in the final kilometre of the one day race. Bennett was taken to hospital where he will spend the night for observation.
Team director Enrico Poitschke told CyclingNews.com:
Sam will stay a night in the hospital for further observation. He is OK, but in pain. He fell on his head and he has a whiplash. Even though we are confident that he’ll be released shortly, we didn’t want to risk anything. That’s why we decided that Sam spends the night in the hospital.
Not long after, he posted this picture to Instagram showing the nasty cuts which he sustained during the pileup.
The Bora-Argon rider will become the latest Irishman to compete in the Tour de France when he takes part in this year's race.
