England were defeated in the second Test of this year's Ashes series, with Australia winning by a 43 run margin at Lord's.
It was nearly remembered for another legendary Ben Stokes innings, but the England captain was got out with his team still needing 70 runs.
The day will live long in the memory, however, for the controversial dismissal of Jonny Bairstow, after he wandered casually out of his crease, believing the ball to be dead, before being stumped by wicketkeeper Alex Carey.
It created a very hostile atmosphere in the ground, with Australia captain Pat Cummins booed relentlessly, while David Warner and Usman Khawaja were confronted by Lord's members during the break for lunch.
On social media, many England fans were incredibly salty over the decision, and cried that it was 'against the spirit of the game'.
England Fans Not Happy With Ashes Dismissal
BOTTOM LINE: Bairstow was seeking zero advantage and everyone knows it. Yes, it’s ‘in the rules’ but no, it’s not in the spirit of the game. Very surprised to see Pat Cummins not call him back. https://t.co/BFFfn7aLYe

Bairstow run out by Carey fails the shopping trolley test. It's legal to leave your trolley anywhere you like in a supermarket car-park after unloading it instead of leaving it in the designated area, but also against the spirit of shopping and proof you're a massive twat. pic.twitter.com/pUyMcMIT2Z

Interesting to see Cummins clapping Stokes' 100. Give it a rest. The idea that there is any real sportsmanship in Cummins disappeared with the dismissal of Bairstow

Scenes at Lords!
What do you expect though if you're Australia, a team of proven cheats, and then act like Carey did you deserve all you get

“I think, to take the whole situation into consideration, the first thing that needs to be said is that it is out,” said captain Stokes when asked about the incident.
“The things I had to consider out there was the fact it was the last ball of the over and I very shortly questioned the umpires as to whether they had called over,
“Both umpires were making the gesture walking towards their opposite position. Jonny was in his crease, then left his crease to come out and have the conversation between overs like every batsman does.
“If I was fielding captain at the time, I would have put a lot more pressure on the umpires to ask them what their decision was around the ‘over’.
“Then I would have had a real think about the spirit of the game and would I want to potentially win a game with something like that happening. It would be no.”
However, fans have also pointed out that Bairstow attempted to catch Marnus Labuschagne out in a similar fashion two days ago.
