As is traditional for English media to do, they are attempting to derail any England World Cup bid for reasons unbeknownst to the rest of the world. This time, there are questions arising as to why captain Eoin Morgan doesn't sing the national anthem when playing for England. It's much ado about nothing in reality, but that fact that Morgan is a naturalised Englishman then it gets column inches.
Now Irish born Morgan has had his say on the matter. Kind of.
Morgan has simultaneously stayed silent on the matter while explaining his side of the story:
I've never sung the National Anthem when I've played for Ireland or England.
Which seems a legitimate excuse. There is no provision in sport that you've to be good at singing, just that you've to be good enough to play the chosen sport. Morgan is quite a good at cricket it appears if he's captain of England at this World Cup. Which it turns out he's quite proud of, as you'd expect. Just as he's proud of playing cricket at an international level. Pride isn't reserved for those who sing the national anthem, at least that's what Morgan is saying.
What Morgan isn't saying though, is why he doesn't sing the Anthems:
It's a long story but it's a personal thing. It would go on a lot.
There you have it. Conclusive reasoning as to why Morgan doesn't sing the National Anthem.
