Ring Kings will be the first professional boxing card promoted in Waterford since 1945. (Here's the card from back then if you want to check it out!)
The first time promoter, Neil Power is taking advantage of the newly built WIT Arena in the South East City and putting on the card on February 17th.
Waterford fighter, Craig McCarthy headlines the card in his home town in what will only be his third professional fight, the 30 year old is currently 2-0 since turning pro just last year. McCarthy is also a well decorated amateur with seven munster titles, one Irish title, has represented his country on the High Performance team on Elite Senior level and placed Bronze in the World Golden Gloves .
McCarthy has just returned to Ireland to resume his camp after a successful and hugely positive learning experience sparring with IBO super-middleweight champion Chris Eubank Jr.
The card is top heavy with hometown fighters, something Waterford native and promoter Neil Power has purposely marketed the card toward. As well as headliner Craig McCarthy, Ring Kings also features fellow Deise men Rohan Daté and Barry Barnes, who is making his pro debut on the night.
Daté is originally from Waterford and now fights out of Dubai. This will be his fourth appearance as a professional, his record being 3 wins and no losses, two of those wins coming by way of knockout.
The card will feature top talent from around the country including Celtic Champ Eric Donovan,Limericks Graham McCormack,Dublin talents John Joyce and Keane McMahon. In a special attraction bout Cuban born Cork based world class talent Mike Perez will fight over a scheduled 8 rounds against a ranked contender which we hope to announce in the next few days.
Neil Power Promotions released their trailer for the event this week and it's honestly as good a promotional video as you're likely to see on any level and will get your juices flowing even if you're not familiar with any of the fighters.
The promo was shot by Waterford based videographer, Liam O' Brien of T1 Photography.
Neil Power, the fledgling promoter, is also planning on matching the production of the video in the arena on the night, the state of the art WIT Arena will feature a full production, lighting and sound system to add to the ambience on this landmark night for Waterford City and Irish professional boxing.
