On Wednesday evening, Ireland could well have our first ever AIBA Men's World Boxing champion. That seems a bit surreal considering how successful we've been in the ring over the past few years but it just goes to show how big an achievement it would be and hopefully will be for Michael Conlan.
The 23 year old takes on Murodjon Akhmadaliev of Uzbekistan in the bantamweight final in Doha during today's evening session and hopes are high for a historic gold medal.
In a week where the rugby and football stars have dominated the headlines it would be great to see Conlan and the Irish squad in Doha get the credit they deserve and if you weren't already looking forward to the fight then take a look at this promo and let it change your mind.

Tonight's evening session begins at 5 p.m. Irish time and Conlan is fifth on the bill, with Irish middleweight Michael O'Reilly's fighting for the third Olympic qualification spot on offer not long before him. Joseph Ward's light-heavyweight final against Cuba's Julio La Cruz takes place on Thursday evening.
