Jason Quigley moved to 13-0 (10KOs) and picked up his first professional title in his adopted California last night, with a hard-fought unanimous decision victory over a career-best opponent in Glen Tapia.
The 25-year-old Ballybofey middleweight was taken into choppy water by his more experienced opponent, having initially looked like he was going to blast the 'Jersey Boy' out of there inside the opening stanza.
Our full fight report can be found here.
Both men retreated from the ring at Fantasy Springs Casino reasonably pleased with their night's work - Tapia having exceeded expectations, and Quigley having come through while seemingly tiring after just four rounds, and hurting his right hand at the end of the 10th.
A fatigued 'El Animal' was spending time recovering with his team, friends and family backstage when somebody shook him vigorously by the shoulders. Seemingly annoyed as he turned around, Quigley soon realised he was face to face with Tapia once more. Laughing, he told his opponent:
I was like, 'You fucker! You here again!'
Closing the night w/ the two warriors showing love and respect for one another ?? Thank you @jay_quigley @RealGlenTapia for a great fight! pic.twitter.com/KaJX3i3raS

Tapia and team enjoyed the sentiment, and the pair parted ways with a couple of platitudes.
Quigley becomes North American Boxing Federation champion with the victory, but was made to fight for it by his game opponent. Adjustments will need to be made during what he hopes to be an ascent to the top of the sport, but last night was a significant learning curve for a man who prides himself on being a student of the sweet science.
