"Sit back relax and enjoy watching me become a World Champion"
Dennis Hogan sent a very clear message to his gathered fights today: the best is yet to come. The Kildare native won a unanimous points decision today in Brisbane against England’s Jimmy Kilrain Kelly in a contest that sets ups a fight for the WBO junior middleweight world title.
The bout was defined by the close quarters as two golden-gloved orthodox punchers refused to give an inch. Kelly's superior reach and sharp right jab posed questions of Hogan who spent the bulk of the second half on the outside but his fitness stood to him and in the last round he was extremely unlucky to be denied a knockdown when Kelly appeared to sit in on the ropes.
Hogan is now the mandatory contender to the victor of the world title fight between WBO champion and Miguel Cotto-conqueror Sadam Ali and challenger Liam Smith and can begin preparation for a world title fight later this year.
