He said it would happen and it did. Some might say it's been a long time coming but in reality, at 30, Andy Lee is hitting a prime that he has worked incredibly hard to get to. He went in as the underdog against perviously unbeaten Russian Matt Korobov and came out with the WBO Middleweight title.
Korobov perhaps had the better of the opening rounds with ever doing any damage. Then in the sixth round a huge right hook with two minutes left on the clock left Korobov reeling. Lee let fly with a flurry of punches which the Russian didn't have any response to. Referee Kenny Bayless stepped in and just like that Ireland had a new world champion.
I've talked with Andy Lee a few times, a very honest, humble and classy guy. Glad to see it go his way tonight... https://t.co/UzvJotUZGY”
