Ariel Helwani had what he described as a ''cultural icon in Dublin'' on ever interesting MMA Hour last night - Conor McGregor's father Tony.
Of course after the McGregor/Mayweather World Tour of Bad Taste, Helwani brought up the subject that has received the most backlash for Conor - did he use racially insensitive language? Tony, of course, defended his son:
Conor McGregor is not racist. This fight is not about race, this fight is about skill and technique. In fact, I don't think any fight is ever about race. The colour of skin is immaterial. It’s the victory that Conor is looking for. It's imperative, that’s the only thing I'd say in that.
It’s not about skin color. No two combatants would ever get into a ring and the issue would be the color of their opposing skin. No, absolutely not. It’s a fight issue, not a race issue.
Helwani then asked for a prediction from McGregor, and Tony predictably claimed there will be a rumble in the boxing world following the fight in the T Mobile Arena:
People are not going to believe what's gonna happen on the 26th of August. The boxing community ruled Conor off. No one's giving him a chance. What he's gonna produce is nothing short of a seismic shock. It's gonna reverberate through the whole unarmed combat world.
Nearly every person in Ireland is in support of Conor McGregor
Mayweather is going to be the second best fighter in the world. He doesn't have the power to cause Conor any difficulty.
That's Floyd Mayweather, who's knocked out Ricky Hatton & Victor Ortiz and 24 others in his 49 wins and zero defeats.
