'It's the best part of 3,000 words but you'd never know it.'
I got a phonecall from the mother last night and she asked me 'Mark, we were just looking here, can you tell me what the hell is goin' on with this whole boxing thing?'
She would have been forgiven for not being able to get her head around it, after days of contrasting accusations being hurled from all sides. However, today it would seem that a consensus on the events has been reached courtesy of a lengthy piece in today's Irish Independent by their chief sports writer, Vincent Hogan.
Hogan gives a blow-by-blow account of the whole debacle - albeit it seems to be mostly from the perspective of Billy Walsh - and if it is to be believed then what a truly farcical situation we find ourselves in.
I could have picked 20 quotes to highlight this. Here is just one:
Despite their awareness of the pressure that Walsh was under from America on September 14, it took three days for the IABA to finally deliver their contract to his solicitor. And it proved, as his representatives had feared it would, unacceptable.
Walsh was advised legally that it would be unwise to sign. The contract had glaring issues on the autonomy of his job description and the most basic issues of authority.
In conclusion, you should really take the time to read his piece today. And don't just my word on it, everyone else is talking about it too.
Well that's the IABA put back in their box. Superb work by @Vincent_Hogan https://t.co/RFxF4MMrU4

If you only read 1 article on Irish sport this year, make it @Vincent_Hogan's in today's Indo. IABA's treatment of Billy Walsh is a scandal.
