Billy Walsh could earn €127,000 a year in the States if, as looks certain, he makes the jump and accepts a role with the US women's team.
According to the Irish Sun, the Americans are willing to raise his current €77,000 wage by 5ok as well as offering a pension and a longer contract than the IABA are willing to give him.
A source told the Sun:
I’d say Walsh will be on a plane by tomorrow. There is a lot more than a raise at the heart of this.
It’s about total control, a pension and a longer contract than they want to hand out. The IABA don’t want to be lumbered with payments for 20 years.
Yesterday, Michael Conlan told us that if Walsh leaves he's not sure what direction Irish boxing would go.
Hopefully the powers that be wake up and smell the bacon before it's too late.
