Canelo Alvarez May re-match against Gennady Golovkin is in serious jeopardy after recent developments confirmed the boxer failed two drug tests, resulting in the Nevada State Athletic Commission issuing a temporary suspension.
It was recently confirmed that Alvarez tested positive for Clenbuterol. At the time his promotional company promised he will make himself available for more tests but ESPN has now revealed it was two positive tests, one on February 17 and the other on February 20th.
Golden Boy initially dismissed the failed test and claimed it was the result of contaminated meat. However, their spokesman yesterday confirmed they were taking the case seriously while maintaining Alvarez's innocence.
We respect the Nevada State Athletic Commission's process and will vigorously present Canelo's case throughout. Over his career, Canelo has tested clean more than 90 times and would never intentionally take a banned substance.
Anyone who doubts #CaneloGGG2 isn't in legitimate serious jeopardy of being canceled due to Canelo's 2 failed PED tests I offer just one exhibit: HBO didn't use its Saturday fight telecast to promote the PPV & left it off it's upcoming calendar of events. This is serious, folks.

Golovkin was adamant that Alvarez had cheated when questioned about the test, prompting Canelo to post a striking response.

The rematch is scheduled for May 5 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, but on April 4 Canelo has a meeting with the commission which should determine if it goes ahead.
