Last week we spoke with Monaghan boxer Christina McMahon about her disgraceful suspension at the hands of the horrendous boxing 'governing body' that is the WBC.
Five months ago, McMahon was adjudged to have lost a decision to Mexican WBC world super-flyweight champion Zulina 'El Loba' Munoz. Among the controversies during and after McMahon's so-called defeat were the result itself, naturally, along with farcical post-fight doping procedures and shady behaviour from certain WBC officials. The full details are available here.
McMahon was subsequently promised a rematch with Zulina - scheduled for the National Stadium, Dublin - before the WBC reneged on that promise, suspending McMahon indefinitely for 'going public' about five months of being led on by the organisation that her date with destiny was forthcoming. McMahon, they said - via Facebook chat, no less - had broken their 'code of ethics'.
A distraught McMahon spoke to Balls.ie last week about her ordeal, and WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman responded with the following nonsense:
There is nothing to answer, all was promptly addressed and clarified it is all simple unfounded attacks https://t.co/dNBgMLehnU

Team McMahon have since launched a petition for the WBC to follow through on their word and grant McMahon the
rematch which, to be frank, is the least that she deserves.
Over 1,000 Irish boxing fans have already signed the petition, and you can too by following Christina's link below.
Irish sports fans need to get behind one of our finest sportswomen and send a message to the WBC that their treatment of 'Lightning' simply cannot be tolerated. For someone to have trained and prepared for such a significant proportion of their lives only to have their dreams shattered via nonsensical gobshitery is a disgrace to the sport of boxing, and sport in general.
There's a reason they're unwilling to send Munoz to Dublin to face her old foe.
