The three-time Irish Olympian Paddy Barnes suffered a KO loss against Cristofer Rosales, the WBC Flyweight champion of the world.
Fighting on the undercard of Carl Frampton's bout with Luke Jackson in Belfast's Windsor Park this evening, Barnes started admirably and went toe-to-toe with the defending champ.
By the second round, it was clear this was a bout that would not go all twelve rounds. Both boxers were willing to accept punishment in order to land shots. Rosales showed promise in the third but Barnes more than held his own and began to land cleaner punches in the third.
However, as the Belfast brawler loaded a right hook Rosales let fly with a brutal body shot.
In what was the 31-year-old's sixth professional fight, the fourth round KO was the first loss of Barnes career.
After a fruitful amateur career, a World Title is still a definite possibility. However, tonight Cristofer Rosales remains the WBC Flyweight world champion.
