While the Irish were screwed over today, an Irishman was to the fore in an extremely contentious decision involving a Russian fighter last night.
Last night, Kazakhstan's Vassiliy Levit was "beaten" by Russia's Evgeny Tishchenko in the final of the men's heavyweights. The result was greeted with a cacophony of boos from the crowd.
Several outlets breathlessly described it as the worst decision in Olympic boxing since Roy Jones Junior was famously beaten by a Korean boxer in Seoul in 1988.
It comes on top of other generous decisions in favour of Russians. Yesterday, Billy Walsh, 'he of Team USA', was apoplectic with rage at the scoring of US lightweight Mikaela Mayer's fight. She was beaten by Anastasiia Beliakova. A Russian lady.
Today, it was Ireland's turn to be robbed of a medal by a scandalous decision in favour of a Russian fighter. The judges were determined not to look back at Conlan when he walked past them after the fight.
Conlan has since tweeted Vladimir Putin directly asking him how he secured the result for his countryman.
Hey Vlad @PutinRF_Eng
How much did they charge you bro?? @AIBA_Boxing #Rio2016 ?

While the Irish were screwed over today, an Irishman was to the fore in denying the dominant Kazakh fighter the gold last night.
Omagh-born Michael Gallagher was awarded both the AIBA Referee and Judge of the year in both 2011 and 2012.
He told the Tyrone Herald after being selected for the Olympics.
I think for an official, regardless of what sport it is, it is the exact same thing. My lifelong ambition is to do the Olympic Games. I've done every major event, world championship, European, Commonwealth Games, but I've never done the Olympic Games.
Gallagher scored rounds 1 in favour of Levit before giving Round 2 to Tischenko. Bizarrely, he also scored the final round to the Russian fighter.
Following Conlan's loss today, an irate Paddy Barnes tweeted this about Gallagher's role in the Tischenko-Levit fight last night.
