It's fair to say the vast majority of us were disappointed. Manny Pacquiao went in to the fight of the century as the people's favourite. And even if you didn't care who won, you were probably still disappointed by the manner of Mayweather's victory.
Yes we can all flaunt our sporting knowledge by commending the sensational defence of the pound for pound best boxer in the world but fans were hoping for a thriller and it predictably didn't happen.
The problem that many anticipated came to pass. Manny just wasn't quick enough to catch Mayweather. But as tends to happen in the aftermath of big fights there may have been a reason for that. Although he stopped short of using it as an excuse, Pacquiao revealed that he had torn a rotator cuff three weeks before the fight.
However, that injury could become even more serious after it was revealed that Pacquiao failed to disclose the injury to authorities in the lead up to the bout. According to Daily News, a pre-fight medical questionnaire was returned with a 'no' ticked for a question asking if Pacquiao had a shoulder in jury.
That nondisclosure could become quite serious with Nevada Athletic Commission chairman, Francisco Aguilar, confirming that disciplinary action could be severe to the extent that fighters 'sign that document under the penalty of perjury'.
Aguilar continued;
We will gather all the facts and follow the circumstances. At some point we will have some discussion. As a licensee of the commission you want to make sure fighters are giving you up-to-date information.
It has been suggested that the choice to hide the injury was taken in an effort to stop Mayweather gathering valuable information but even if that is true, it could be a very costly decision for the Pacquiao camp.
