The boxing world was shocked last night after Mike Towell died from injuries sustained during his loss on Thursday night in an eliminator for the British welterweight title.
The Dundee boxer lost in the fifth round to Dale Evans in Glasgow, and was rushed to Queen Elizabeth hospital after being knocked down. Towell had been complaining of migraines in the weeks leading up to the fight, but had put it down to the stress of the fight.
Towell died late on Friday night, eleven hours after being taken off life support, following severe bleeding and swelling to his brain.
The boxing world mourned Towell, and tributes to the 25-year-old have been rushing in:
My deepest sympathies and prayers to the family of Dundee boxer MikeTowell RIP who passed away during the night. Very sad for all involved.
