Long-Reigning Super-Featherweight King Sensationally Bombed Out By Unheralded Challenger

Panama, have you been keeping secrets on us?

Boxing's top super featherweight Takashi Uchiyama suffered a major upset defeat this morning in his native Japan, as unheralded Panamanian Jezreel Corrales rocked up to Tokyo and mercilessly took him out in just two rounds, dropping the long-reigning champion three times.

The previously undefeated Uchiyama (now 24-1-1, 20 KOs) was floored by a massive overhand left from Corrales just over a minute into the second round, and failed to recover sufficiently to withstand a ferocious barrage by the aptly nicknamed El Invisible.

The new champion ended Uchiyama's 6-year reign atop the super-featherweight division, where he has defended his WBA title 11 consecutive times.

To add further context to the size of the upset, 24-year-old Corrales was not ranked in the WBC, WBO or IBF's respective top 15 ratings prior to the fight.
