Katie Taylor's opponent Anahi Sánchez has failed to make initial weight for their WBA lightweight title fight.
Taylor was due to face Sánchez on the undercard of Anthony Joshua's first defence of his world titles at the Principality Stadium, Cardiff tomorrow night. However, Argentine Sánchez weighed in at 9st 10lbs and has been given two hours to lose a pound.
Taylor, for her part, made weight at 9st 8.5lbs and claimed she is in the best shape of her career ahead of the bout:
I'm definitely more than ready. I cant wait to get in there tomorrow night. I've had a good, long camp under my belt for this fight and I'm stronger than ever, I'm fitter than ever and I can't wait to show that tomorrow evening.
Taylor believes the fight will be her "toughest test to date" and is unconcerned with Sánchez's inability to make weight:
It doesn't bother me at all I'm just completely focused on my performance I made the weight so I feel good, my mind is purely on this fight tomorrow evening its up to her to get the weight off.
The champion's one pound loss is certainly doable. If she does not make weight the title will become vacant. In this circumstance talks would be required between the camps as to whether the fight will go ahead and if it does, only Taylor can win the belt, should she be victorious. If not the title is vacated.
Taylor's bout is set to be televised on Sky Sports Box Office, with the undercard expected to get underway at 7pm.
UPDATE: Sanchez has once again failed to make weight. It has been confirmed that the fight will go ahead, but only Taylor can win the belt.
