Katie Taylor revealed there was a date booked for a Croke Park homecoming in September but it unfortunately fell through.
The Bray boxer is currently preparing for her latest lightweight title defence this Saturday against unbeaten Argentinian fighter Karen Elizabeth Carabajal in the OVO Arena Wembely.
This will be Katie Taylor’s second fight this year, after claiming a split decision victory over Amanda Serrano in arguably the biggest fight in women’s boxing history.
The possibilities after this fight seemed endless, as Taylor and Serrano produced an absolute classic and brought women’s boxing to another level.

Several different opponents were discussed, with former UFC bantamweight champion Holly Holm and Bellator featherweight champion Cris Cyborg rumoured to be interested, with Cyborg making her boxing debut in September.
However, Carabajal in London was the decision that was made, as Katie Taylor’s homecoming plans were put on hold, with Serrano defeating Sarah Mahfoud in September.
It was unclear if the idea of a fight in Ireland was discussed for the 36-year-old, with her promoter Eddie Hearn previously placing doubt on the idea.
However, speaking on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Hour earlier today, Katie Taylor revealed just how close a rematch with Amanda Serrano came to being agreed in Croke Park.

“I was obviously willing and ready to step back in an immediate rematch and we actually had Croke Park sealed off for one of the dates in September.
I think Serrano and her team just wanted a couple of more fights maybe under her belt before going back into a rematch. We were always willing and ready to jump straight back in.
We were in talks with Croke Park, the date was actually sealed off. Just the thoughts of having my homecoming fight in front of 80,000, I think that’s the only thing that could’ve topped what happened in Madison Square Garden.”
Hopefully negotiations can resume should Taylor win this weekend, and give Taylor the long overdue homecoming she deserves.
