It's no wonder Irish sport's golden girl is smiling. Amateur sport, by definition, doesn't pay but if you're as dominant as Katie Taylor (and in turn as marketable as her) it apparently can. The five time world champion boxer has always said that she has no real intention of turning professional and when you see the figures that she's making from sponsorship, it's easy to see why.
According to figures obtained by the Irish Independent, her personal firm, KT Sports Ltd, posted accumulated profits approaching €1 million last year, an increase of over €300,000.
Cash held by the firm, of which Taylor is the sole shareholder, hit €686,012 with another €358,870 owed by debtors.
High profile sponsorship deals with companies such as Toyota and Lucozade are the main source of that income and it really goes to show that Taylor's decision to stay amateur and aim for the Rio Olympics was the correct one.
Some might say that she's worth more still in comparison to some high profile athlete but nonetheless, it's absolutely brilliant to see that she's doing so well out of her success. We're fairly sure that there's no one out there who is going to begrudge her a cent of it.
