Katie Taylor coasted to 5-0 as a professional at Wembley this evening, her fight against Nina Meinke stopped in the seventh round with Katie looking largely flawless. Taylor and her opponent made history tonight: they were the first women to ever fight at Wembley. Not that a starring role on Britain's biggest boxing card in years is enough to satisfy Taylor's ambitions.
Afterward, Eddie Hearn confirmed the plans for Katie Taylor's next fight, with the message resolute: next stop America.
Tonight's card from Wembley is live on HBO and Showtime in the United States, with Hearn telling Sky Sports afterward that the American broadcasters have been "all over me" to secure a slot for Katie on US television.
Hearn told Sky that her next fight will likely be in the States this summer:
Katie Taylor Next Fight
Next will be America, in June or July. She's the most entertaining female fighter on the planet - what you saw tonight was more professionalism.
The exact details have yet to be confirmed, but Hearn speculated that it is possible that Taylor will appear on the undercard of Sergey Kovalev/Andre Ward II. He also mentioned that Taylor may yet headline a night on the east coast.
This is all a prelude to a return to Dublin for a world title fight in October or November, according to Hearn.
After the fight, Taylor told Sky that she believes she is ready for that fight:
This weight is perfect for me, I feel very strong and good at this weight.
I think I'm ready right now to box for a world title, but we leave that to the likes of Eddie and I'll just keep focusing on my job. The best is yet to come - I didn't perform to my best tonight but the most important thing is I won.
Roll on autumn!
