Although Katie Taylor is currently preparing for her pro debut against Karina Kopinska which takes place in Wembley this Saturday, her fans' attentions have already been turned to March of next year, and the prospect of her US debut.
The reason for this is that her promoter Eddie Hearn's comments in Dublin earlier today via Independent.ie:
It looks like we’re set for 18 March at Madison Square Gardens after discussions with Tom Loeffler over the weekend. It’s a huge opportunity for Katie Taylor.
That event on 18th March will be a Gennady Golovkin title defence, as discussions took place last weekend around the Ward vs Kovalev fight, and a spot on the undercard of that fight would be fantastic exposure for Bray's Katie Taylor. GGG's opponent is yet to be confirmed.
Furthermore, it would come just a day after Michael Conlan makes his pro debut in Madison Square Garden on March 17th, making St.Patricks' weekend of 2017 a truly exciting time for Irish boxing.
Our two best ever amateurs performing in one of the world's most historic venue on back to back nights? What an exhilarating prospect for Irish sports fans, and many will no doubt make the trip over to New York to show their support.
Katie sounded extremely focused while talking to Ryan Tubridy on the Late Late Show last week, as her preparations ahead of her pro debut appear to be going very well, and meanwhile Mick Conlan took to twitter to give us a look inside his "new home" over in LA, at The Rock.
This news has come as a pleasant surprise, and offers Katie a chance to truly show the world what to do, and we shouldn't need to explain why being on a Gennady Golovkin card is a massive deal in terms of exposure.
We can't wait, it promises to be a monumental weekend.
