Immediately after Katie Taylor's easy win against Cindy Serrano at the Boston Garden on Saturday night, her opponent's husband and trainer, Jordan Maldonado, was heard making a remark to the world champion.
Maldonado told Taylor that Cindy's sister, Amanda - who he also trains - would knock her out.
The IBF and WBA lightweight title holder was asked about Maldonado's comment during the post-fight press conference. Taylor said she had heard that it and that she had also heard him making remarks throughout the fight.
He was saying terrible things and that was his wife who was in the ring.
He was saying 'you picked the weaker Serrano.'
That's a terrible thing to say. At least give your wife some encouragement. That's ridiculous of him.
The fight against Cindy Serrano went the full ten rounds. Taylor dominated its entirety against an extremely negative opponent.
"I got quite bored halfway through the fight," said Taylor.
"She really wasn't doing much at all. It was quite disappointing that she was just in there to survive for the ten rounds. Why would you do that as a fighter? Just give it your all."
"It's the fight that everyone wants to see," Taylor said regarding Amanda Serrano who recently made her MMA debut.
"She's doing pretty much everything she can to avoid the fight with me."
Regarding Taylor's next fight, her promoter, Eddie Hearn, said a bout against the other Serrano sister "would do" but he would prefer to see the Bray boxer in the ring challenging for another belt.
"I would still love to fight a champion because I know Katie is about legacy and belts.
"I know the [Amanda] Serrano and the [Cecilia] Brækhus fights are nice but the original aim was to be the undisputed champion of the division. I would still like her to fight maybe [Rose] Volante next."
Hearn said he has attempted talks with WBO champion, Volante.
"She's quite happy in Brazil at the moment. She's carved out a little niche for herself out there and she's enjoying life.
"It's always the way in boxing, you just keep making the offers and eventually you get to a number that they can't turn down.
"I would love for her [Taylor] to finish her career having won every belt in the division and then move up."
