Katie Taylor is without doubt the biggest name in women's boxing.
Any opponent who steps into the ring with the Irishwoman knows that they will be likely earning the biggest payday of their career in the process, meaning that there are no shortage of interested fighters out there when it comes to taking on the Bray native.
Despite this, Amanda Serrano has been playing hard to get when it comes to organising their rematch.
The pair duked it out in a brilliant contest at Madison Square Gardens earlier this year, with Taylor coming out on top to retain her status as undisputed lightweight champion of the world.
It was expected that the pair would face off once again before the end of the year, with a possible fight in Croke Park even mooted. However, Serrano has so far been difficult to negotiate with.
Katie Taylor calls out Jake Paul 'nonsense'
Serrano's promoter Jake Paul recently said that he had offered Katie Taylor $2million to sign up for the rematch, but it came with the caveat that the fight would take place at 126lbs as opposed to the 135lbs mark of the last bout.
That was never going to be accepted by the 36-year old, who has never fought below 132lbs during her professional career.
Speaking on Matchroom Boxing’s 'Flash Knockdown' podcast, Taylor called Paul out for this move and said it was 'nonsense' to ask a world champion to drop down in weight class for a rematch.
I think they are just trying to play a few games. I’m pretty sure he knows that I’m not going to get down to 126 at the end of the day.
I don’t think I’ve heard of that in boxing, where the champion actually wins and the opponent says ‘we only want a rematch at a lower weight division. It is real nonsense to be quite honest.
I don’t know if he is playing games or it’s naivety from him, but obviously, any rematch is going to be at 135 pounds.
I’m the champion and if they want to run the fight back that’s the weight division it’s going to be at.
There have been some suggestions that Serrano is not all that interested in a rematch with Katie Taylor, with many seeing these comments from Paul as a way of shifting the blame towards the champ if another meeting between the pair does not take place.
It will be interesting to see how the negotiations go from here.
