She's done something no other Irish boxer has ever done, and she's done it in two and half years as a professional. Few have deserved a hero's welcome at Dublin Airport like Katie Taylor and that is what she got this morning. Taylor emerged to the waiting masses with no fewer than five belts on her arms, the undisputed champion of the world.

Never worry about the Irish politician's ability to place themselves as the centre of a sporting achievement. Minister Shane Ross managed a Charles Haughey special by accompanying the returning hero through the gates at Terminal 2 Arrivals.

There will be plenty of conversation in the days and weeks ahead about Taylor's performance, the validity of the result, and whether there is a rematch on the horizon, but today was a day to bask in the glow of her achievement and to let her fans get close to their idol.
