Earlier this year Eddie Hearn, in typical Eddie Hearn fashion, touted the idea of a cross-over fight between Katie Taylor and Holly Holm, if the price was right:
If the money’s there, you can’t turn down things like that.
You can never rule it out in the future, but there’s not one fighter that I have that I’m looking at [making a crossover fight with] other than Katie Taylor against Holly Holm.
Yesterday reports emerged that talks between both camps have taken place. In the aftermath of her dominant WBA world title win last night Taylor was asked by iFL TV about the possibility of a match-up and while she denied that talks have taken place, Taylor was enthusiastic about the possibility.
It's the first I've heard (about talks taking place.) It sounds good. Bring it on, for sure.
Holm is not a novice to the boxing ring. The American MMA star held several welterweight boxing titles and was named The Ring female fighter of the year in both 2005 and 2006. Her current pro boxing record stands at 38 fights, 9 by KO, 2 losses and 3 draws.
As for her immediate plans, Taylor told RTE that a "2018 title fight in Dublin would be a dream" while Hearn tweeted that this was "just the beginning."
Forget men/women's boxing - this was BOXING! Very proud of @KatieTaylor crowned World Champion last night - just the beginning 🇮🇪👑 pic.twitter.com/RXvo31nTYt
