Pete Taylor is one of the three men who was shot during an incident at Bray Boxing Club on Tuesday morning.

Taylor, a boxing trainer, is the father of Irish Olympic gold medal fighter, Katie Taylor.

At approximately 6:55 am, a gunman fired shots inside the building which is in the harbour area of Bray.

One man, aged 50, died in the shooting. The other man shot is aged 35. Taylor and the 35-year-old were both taken to hospital. Garda Superintendent Pat Ward said the injuries they sustained are not life-threatening.

The suspect, who may have been wearing headgear - possibly a balaclava or helmet - subsequently left the scene in a silver Volkswagen Caddy bearing Northern Irish number plates.

There were a number of fighters training in the gym at the time.

On RTÉ Radio One's Today With Sean O'Rourke, Sunday World crime correspondent, Nicola Tallant, said that the man who died was not known to Gardaí.

Pete Taylor, who is a co-director of the club, established it in 1996. Along with Katie Taylor, Olympian Adam Nolan also trained at the gym.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to contact Bray Garda Station on 01 6665300.
