Colin Farrell spent last Saturday night watching Katie Taylor win her first world title as a professional, in the most entertaining ring-based spectacle he has been associated with since Phonebooth. (You're fired - Ed).
Farrell was among the more notable 80,000-odd people who turned up in Cardiff, and photographers snapped Farrell proferring his hand to Taylor ahead of the fight:
Speaking to the Irish Independent after the fight, Taylor revealed that Farrell had actually offered to walk her to the ring. We don't think this is egotistical on Farrell's part, as fighters are often escorted to the ring by a famous face or two: it helps with the promotion.
She turned down the offer, however, with trademark humility, as Irish manager Brian Peters told the paper:
It was actually really funny. Katie just looked at Colin and said, 'Thanks a million, but just sit down with your girlfriend and enjoy your night'.
Colin was a little nervous at the prospect himself, to be honest. He's normally used to being the star of the show, but he was in an arena packed with 80,000 people.
It's become somewhat of a tradition for a personality to walk out a fighter, but Katie just wasn't interested - she was just completely focused on the fight ahead.
It was really great for Colin to come down. He drove three hours from London to watch the fight and came back down afterwards to congratulate her.
